The Bosch brand has
a wide variety of power tools which are widely known for their quality. When searching for a heavy duty
drill, quality is more important than price. Let’s talk about the GSR24VE2 Bosch 24v cordless drill more
specifically.
Speaking of price,
we might as well get right down to it. The bosch 24v cordless drill, model GSR24VE2, is going to cost around
$450, depending on where you shop, it may cost more or less. Anyone can go to their local hardware store and
pick up a $50 drill, but it isn’t going to be able to compete with this cordless
drill.
This drill is put
together really well. It has been tested after suffering a 2 meter fall on to concrete and still performed
like it was new. This is a great feature by Bosch called “Dura Shield Housing.” Quite simply, they have
designed the housing to be able to withstand a lot of abuse. Let’s face it, when working on a job site or
even at home, accidents happen. I recall dropping a palm sander off my roof, only to climb down and realize I
needed to pick up a new one. $45 later, I was back on my roof. Now I’m not saying this is going to take a
fall off a roof but it definitely won’t mind falling off a bench or being in the back of a work
truck.
So we know that
the Bosch 24v cordless
drill can take a bit of rough housing, but even the toughest of
drills still need to perform. As most drills have now-a-days, it comes with auto locking and clicking noises
to let you know something has changed. The only thing I don’t like about this drill is this: it has a quick
change chuck and not a chuck key. Call me old fashioned, but I like key chucks because I’ve had numerous
problems with keyless chucks in the past. The power is generated by a 2 speed gear box which helps with the
life of the drills high performance motor. Not to mention there are 15 different torque settings, so you
won’t be wasting extra juice trying to push the drill past its limits. It does included a lot of the standard
features you’ll find on any other drill such as: 2 rechargeable batteries, carrying case, forward and
reverse, and multiple gears to handle all types of bits.
I want to point out
a couple of things I like and don’t like about this drill. Let’s start with the bad news. As I mentioned
before, I don’t like keyless chucks. A bosch 24v cordless drill is a bit heavier and you might have
problems trying to use it in awkward places such as ceilings or in hard to reach spots. Although, you can buy
drill bit extensions to help you reach those places. You may also dislike the fact that the batteries cost a
fortune. It comes with two which is great if it’s for your DIY projects. If you are a contractor, the cost of
batteries is going to be a bit astronomical. The things I really love about this drill are the life of the
battery, it’s over all power, and how quiet it is. This drill is like a mouse in the forest compare to some
of the others out there. For the price, you really can’t go wrong. Most hardware stores have demos or a good
exchange policy, so take advantage of it if you find it’s not to your
liking.
The Bosch
24v cordless drill has great reviews across the net and I agree
100% with them all. If you plan on using this drill for difficult jobs, you should have no problems other
than those that I have mentioned. Now, if they could only make it a few pounds lighter, this would be the
ultimate power tool.
